Riverside Homeschool Camps

These themed camps are designed for ages 6-8. 

Session 1: July 24-27, 2017: Herbal Explorers

In the 4-day summer camp we'll deepen our relationship with nature and explore plant identification and herbal first aid through plant walks, games, and herbal arts and crafts. We'll even mix up our own herbal healing potions and delicious teas!

Session 2: August 7-10, 2017: Marvelous Minibeasts *FULL*

Dive in to the world of tiny creatures! We’ll investigate spiders, ants, butterflies, and bees and learn about their life cycles, food chains, and bodily structures and functions. 

Programs will be held rain or shine. Please send your child with appropriate attire for all-weather outdoor adventuring (including a change of clothes) as well as a water bottle, snack, and lunch.

Join us at Riverside on select summer Tuesdays from 10:00 - 12:00 for hands-on learning experiences that interweave STEAM concepts with engaging read-alouds, outdoor exploration, and joyful play and movement.

Not familiar with STEAM? It's an acronym that stands for Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math. STEAM-based education encourages interdisciplinary learning and problem solving, and is a great jumping off point for engaging hands-on learning and exploration.

PERMABLITZ: Let's build a swale!

Want to learn more about practical permaculture design techniques? Looking for an excuse to get your hands dirty and spend some time outdoors? Eager to meet other local permaculture enthusiasts? Can't turn down a free lunch? 

Whatever your reason, we hope you'll join us for our first permablitz in collaboration with Sustainable Jefferson County

Join us at Riverside on Saturday, March 26 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM (rain date: Saturday, April 2). We'll have a brief discussion about swales  (a permaculture design element that helps catch and store water in the soil, making it readily available to plants), followed by a collaborative swale building project on site. 

Vegan, gluten free lunch will be provided. 

No prior experience or permaculture knowledge required. Please bring work gloves and a shovel if you have one!
